One of the passengers told KHOU a fellow passenger was acting strange before she even boarded the plane at LAX Sunday morning. The woman, who has not been identified, was seen earlier in the terminal yelling at other passengers and pacing up and down the plane before the dramatic event occurred.
Passenger Tried to Open Emergency Exit Mid-Flight
“I knew something wasn’t right,” said the passenger. “She wrote ‘Help me’ and her name on (beverage napkins). It was weird, something like you see on TV. You never expect to think you’d be on that same flight.”
The passenger said toward the end of the flight, the woman tried to open one of the emergency exit doors near the back of the plane.
Corpus Christi Airport Police told Houston’s KTRK-TV that the FBI is investigating the situation.
Henrietta Mokwuah, who was also aboard the flight, told the network that the woman came close to opening the emergency door located near the rear of the plane. “Oh yeah, she tore off a piece of it. There was the frame, that was on the door. She ended up breaking it off,” Ms Mokwuah said. The woman refused to stay in her seat and made remarks about being treated unfairly by the government.
Once the plane was on the ground in Corpus Christi, the woman was taken into custody. Her name hasn’t been released. Passengers on the flight eventually made it to Houston, six hours after they were scheduled to arrive.
